Pivotal is a monumental, flag-inspired kinetic artwork celebrating a bright new era for Reading. Comprising 73 brightly coloured fins, each with 80 kinetic elements that respond to the wind, the sculpture is in constant transformation—never appearing the same twice. By day, its scale and vivid palette act as a beacon for residents and the 20 million annual station passengers, while by night, animated lighting within each fin dramatically redefines its presence. Positioned at the gateway to Station Hill, Pivotal embodies adaptability and collective identity, reflecting the spirit of a community shaping its future.
