OLIO
Client : Tampereen Raitiotie Oy
Location : Pirkkala, Finland
Status : In Progress
“OLIO” is a new public artwork for Partola Square in Pirkkala, Finland, commissioned as a landmark for the extension of the Tampere tram network. The pavilion will occupy a clearing within a grid of trees, creating a distinctive meeting point for people arriving at and moving through the square.
Formed from a series of asymmetrically arranged steel plates, OLIO is imagined as a friendly creature living amongst the trees — greeting visitors and passing travellers and inviting them to move through and beneath it. Gradually shifting from deep red to pale pink, the overlapping plates give the sculpture a changing appearance as people move around it.
